Who We are … We are Rowantree. Why Rowantree?
In 1959, Enfield Borough Council ran a number of Adult Evening Classes, one of which was a choir. The class met in the Rowantree Secondary School (the building which is now Edmonton Lower School in Little Bury Street). When, in the late eighties, the Council stopped the funding for this and many other classes, the members of the choir decided they wanted to keep meeting and singing and the Rowantree Choir was launched.
Members found a rehearsal venue in the local Bush Hill Park area - initially Raglan school and later the church hall of the Wellington Road Methodist Church. They raised the necessary funds by various means to allow themselves to hire the services of a Musical Director and this is how the Choir developed.
In 2009, the Choir produced a booklet to celebrate 50 years of Rowantree Choir.
The Choir is now a registered Charity.
The coming together with other like-minded people to learn and make music is such a joyous experience. I have been a member of the Rowantree Choir for many years. It has been with me through many good years and provided care and support in more difficult times. Our MD Jonathan has the ability, through his enthusiasm and positivity, to make every rehearsal fun.
