What we sing

Variety is a keynote!

The Rowantree Choir, based in Enfield, is a friendly, mixed, four part choir singing a wide range of music across all genres. We perform at least 5 concerts a year in and around the Enfield area: one which will include a more challenging piece of classical choral music with the support of professional soloists, a summer concert of a lighter nature (including special arrangements of popular songs) and of course a Christmas concert with a small professional orchestra. Our Previous Concerts page provides an insight into concerts we have performed in recent years. From time to time as requested we perform to support local charities or special events. However, whatever and wherever we sing, our inspirational Musical Director, Jonathan Rathbone, brings joy to every rehearsal and performance.

There is no audition required and no need to read music, just the desire to sing and be challenged is all we ask. There is genuine power and satisfaction when people, who love singing, come together to perform. It is a great way to make new friends and is known to have huge benefits for your physical and mental wellbeing.

So come join us and become part of something really special. We look forward to seeing you.

I have recently joined the choir and have felt so welcomed by everyone. The choir is friendly and inclusive with a fantastic Musical Director – Jonathan Rathbone.

Videos

Not to be deterred by the COVID lockdowns we continued to rehearse and perform together online. Below are five videos recorded during the unprecedented time in all our lives. It helped to keep us together as a choir - and sane too!

Special Commissions

In addition to a range of standard 'choral music' sung by most other choirs, we have commissioned our Musical Director Jonathan to write pieces specifically for us. These pieces have featured in some of our concerts, to acclaim – and have also been ‘borrowed’ by other choirs from time to time.
Jonathan composed ‘Night of Wonder’ a retelllng of the events through the first Christmas Night, with Lyrics written by Paul Whitnall, a Choir member

Mr Fezziwig’s Christmas Party’ Is a collaboration between Jonathan's music and lyrics by Paul Whitnall.  This music has proved popular with other musical groups and has been hired from us and performed by choirs in various parts of London, Hertfordshire and Leicestershire to great acclaim.

Patricius’ is another piece from the same team which tells the story of St Patrick

More recently ‘Back Then’ was a collection of childhood memories, set to music, conjuring up a lost past and perhaps a simpler happier time.
